A dramatic double-height library space called for luminaires with the presence to match its architecture — and the flexibility to reflect its location.

Working closely with the East Ridings own lighting department, LumiAdd designed a bespoke pendant luminaire series developed exclusively for this installation. The brief centred on integrating the Yorkshire Rose motif into the luminaire envelope and echoing other geometric elements in the space — a site-specific design detail that could only be realised through the unconstrained geometry made possible by advanced FDM 3D printing. No tooling. No compromise.

The design is rooted in the LumiAdd Desica pendant system, with the custom Yorkshire Rose profile developed as a site-specific variation — demonstrating precisely the kind of bespoke capability that sits at the heart of the LumiAdd proposition. Manufactured on demand in the UK from plant polymers, each luminaire was produced without the cost or lead-time penalties that would accompany equivalent bespoke work from a traditional manufacturer.

Suspended within the double-height volume, the pendants establish both scale and identity — functional luminaires that carry genuine design intent and a clear sense of place.
