A refurbishment project for a leisure centre café presented an opportunity to demonstrate what genuinely sustainable lighting procurement looks like in practice — not as an aspiration, but as a delivered outcome.
LumiAdd supplied two luminaire families for the space. Origin Series pendants, manufactured from PHA plant polymer, provide warm and decorative character throughout the café. PHA is a truly circular material — 100% bio-based, fully biodegradable in any environment, and producing no microplastics at end of life. Above the servery, a further set of pendants incorporates reclaimed coffee grounds diverted from the waste stream, blended into the plant polymer to create a distinctive translucent finish with a warm, textured quality — a material specification that is as considered as it is characterful.
Heilis recessed downlights complete the scheme, delivering high-efficacy, low glare, functionally precise illumination across the wider space.
Every product was manufactured on demand in the UK, with no overproduction and no material waste.
The specification reflects East Riding of Yorkshire Council's commitment to more sustainable procurement — and demonstrates that lighting with genuine sustainability and circularity credentials, can be specified without compromise on performance or design quality.
